NIAMEY, July 4 (Globe Afrique) – Nigeria’s most dangerous Islamic terrorist sect, Boko Haram militants, have killed nine people and kidnapped 45 others, most of them women and children, after attacking a village in Niger’s southern Diffa region, according to local media sources.
The Boko Haram jihadists slit the throats of nine people at a village in southeastern Niger, the regional governor said Tuesday.
The attack occurred between late Sunday night and early Monday morning, when the militants attacked the village, killing at least nine civilians and taking 45 others hostage.
The attack happened near the border with Nigeria, the governor of Diffa region, Laouali Mahamane Dan Dano, told state TV.
Earlier in last week, two Boko Haram members carried out a suicide bomb attack against a refugee camp in the same region, killing themselves and two others, and injuring 11 other people.
In recent years, Boko Harm have repeatedly carried out attacks against targets in Nigeria and its neighboring countries, resulting in heavy casualties.
