Another former English Premier League star looks to be on his way to Indonesia. Mohamed Sissoko, ex-Liverpool, PSG and Valencia midfielder, is expected to join three-time Indonesian champions Mitra Kukar.
Sissoko will become the fourth former English Premier League player in recent weeks to join Indonesia’s Liga 1 after Michael Essien, Carlton Cole and Peter Odemwingie previously made the switch.
The 32-year-old is expected to sign a one-year contract with the club once he passes his medical. Mitra Kukar has stated that he may even be available for the team’s second game of the season next weekend.
The Indonesian side will become Sissoko’s third club in less than six months . Sissoko had previously been enjoying his football with India’s Pune City before joining Italian second-tier side Ternana only to see his contract terminated after three weeks due to a poor attitude.
Sissoko has enjoyed an accomplished career. Before moving to England, he was in the 2004 Valencia side that won the Spanish league title, Uefa cup and Super cup. Making 87 appearances for Liverpool between 2005 and 2008, he helped the Reds lift the English FA Cup in 2006. He then joined Italian giants Juventus and two years later moved to France where he signed for PSG. After winning the French league title with the Parisians, Sissoko enjoyed a short stint in China with Shanghai Shenhua. He moved to India after failing to secure a deal with West Bromwich Albion in 2016.
Internationally, Sissoko has made 34 appearances for Mali. He was part of the Mali squad at the 2004, 2008, 2010 and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.
Mitra Kukar will become Sissoko’s eleventh professional club.
