Nigeria ex-vice president prepared to run for presidency in 2019

NEW YORK ––A former vice president of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, says he is prepared to run for the presidency in 2019, his spokesman told media groups on Friday.

Abubakar, a former staunch ally of President Muhammadu Buhari quit the ruling party earlier on Friday, saying it had “failed.”

Atiku Abubakar, a veteran politician, businessman, and philanthropist served as the second elected Vice-President of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007, on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, with President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) said in a statement that the party is not losing sleep over the departure of a key chieftain of the party, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.
