LAGOS, Nigeria — The Nigerian government on Wednesday, December 13 said it targeting increased investments in the renewable energy sector to promote industrialization of the most populous country in Africa, according to Nigeria’s minister of science and technology Ogbonnaya Onu.
“The federal government will initiate legislative and judicial framework that will enhance utilization of the sector,” Onu said.
Renewable energy, Onu added, could be used in the energy mix to create jobs, reduce poverty and help raise the standard of living for rural residents in the country.
The minister noted that the level of renewable energy exploitation for the generation of electricity in the nation was low.
Hence, he added that the government is devoted to removing all obstacles that hinder the utilization of renewable energy in Nigeria.
