The Johnson, Holt, and Deline Families announce with profound regret the home going of their husband, father, brother, son, and cousin, Deacon Charles Alexander Johnson, Jr. (affectionately known as Chucky or Deacon Ambassador Charles Johnson).  He was only 36 years old. This untimely heartbreaking event occurred on Saturday, January 12, at the ELWA hospital in Monrovia, Liberia.  Chucky was a PH.D. Candidate working on completing his dissertation and had recently received a promotion as Program Manager at his place of employment in New York City.  He had gone to Liberia to attend and participate in his brother’s and one of his best friends’ weddings to return to the U.S. on January 20th and begin his new senior-level assignment when he met his untimely death in Liberia.  Chucky was a graduate of Monrovia College in Monrovia, Liberia.  He obtained his bachelor’s degree from the African Methodist Episcopal University (AMEU) in Monrovia; he obtained his master’s degree from Capella University in the U.S. where he was working on completing his Dissertation for his Ph.D. when he met his untimely death.

Charles A. Johnson, Jr. was born in Lower Buchanan, Liberia, August 3rd, 1982, unto the union of Hon. Charles J. Johnson and Roselyn Holt-Johnson.   He would go on to do great things in a life that was cut short at the tender age of 36 on January 12, 2019. Charles A. Johnson Jr.  was a devoted servant of God, a devoted husband, father, family man, and a friend to all. He was also a servant to the people of Liberia and the United States – two countries that he loved so dearly. He was the Chairman of the Deacon Board of the United Christian Assembly Church in New York, a 32-degree Mason and a member of St. John’s Local Lodge #744 were he served as Junior Warden. He was also a member and State Officer of the Grand Lodge, King Hiram, in the state of New Jersey.  Chucky was one of the leaders of the Liberty party in Liberia, and a leader of many other philanthropic and social organizations.

Brief family Background:

The late Deacon Ambassador Charles A. Johnson Jr. as he was also affectionately called, is a direct descendant of Elijah Johnson. Elijah Johnson was born in New York in 1791; he was a member of the U.S. Navy who fought in the War of 1812 against the British.  Later, he joined the American Colonization and became part of a team of 86 emigrants who sailed to West Africa in 1820 and established the nation of Liberia.  His second eldest child, Charles R.H. Johnson later settled in Edina City, and Chucky’s father, Charles J. Johnson who predeceased him, and his great grand Father Charles R.H. Johnson, both, served as Members of the House of Representatives for Grand Bassa County in Liberia.  Like his ancestors, Chucky also had political ambitions in Liberia; however, his life was cut short.  On the maternal front, Chucky is the grandson of the late Rev. Dr. G. Franklin Holt, a former President of the AMEU University in Liberia.

Charles leaves to mourn his loss, his loving wife Emerlyn Deline Johnson; two handsome boys, Charles Aubrey Ofa Alexander Johnson (2 years old), and Chad Caden Chaingar Emerson Johnson (only eight months old).  Their oldest child, Charles A.
