Official Response of the Media Team of Dr H. Boima Fahnbulleh

Official Response of the Media Team of Dr. H. Boima Fahnbulleh, Jr. for President against the Nation Time Newspaper

Members of the Fourth Estate:

In a society with massive knowledge deficit and vast ignorance, the tendency for little men with haphazard education to assume the status of a giant is rife and amazing. This tragedy of fools thinking that they can gate-crash their way to prominence by launching a frontal assault on the person of a decent character like Dr H. Boima Fahnbulleh, Jr. will not go unnoticed without our strong response. Those ones who have not the decency to withstand cross-examination without being found wanting will be given no aura of oxygen to pollute the newsstand with garbage.

Early in the 1700s Jonathan Swift narrated the attitude of those impostors in his best seller—Gulliver’s Travel, in which he asserted that the narrow-minded swindlers who were pocket-sized figures on the island of Lilliput were known mischief-makers and gangsters, who pandered to the instinct of hate, greed, and vices. Those one opposed anything that was virtuous, appropriate, and okay, but indulged in acts inimical to the forward march of the greater good for the greater number of people. In this folly of their thinking and the cheapness of their logic, are those one who think they have the decency to denigrate men who have sacrificed their lives for noble causes.

We have read many local dailies and news articles but the stories coming out of the Nation Times newspaper are so appalling and disconcerting. Unfortunately for us, we are surprised to have read one of the most contradictory stories in recent time in the Monday, August 29, 2017 edition of the Nation Times newspaper, captioned “Notorious Rebel Fahnbulleh Goes Mad- Targets Media for Rudeness-is he on weed?”

Before we take this paper on for the slanted information it purveyed to the public about Dr Fahnbulleh, we want to inform the public that the paper falls short of the standard of a newspaper. It is a hurriedly prepared nonsense presided over by an editor who is the worst thing that has ever happened to the media in Liberia. This editor in Octavius Williams is no journalist, but a ruthless fraudster who uses the media as a hideout to vilify decent men and women. The editor of the Nation Times made slew of unsubstantiated allegations that border on crude logic, hasty generalization, vague analysis, bias inclination, and non-sequitur conclusion. The story, in and of itself, cannot qualify to be anything more than a sadistically crude propaganda written by a lousy scoundrel who has an ahistorical and blemished understanding of the struggle that ensued in this country for the past three decades. All we can bet on is that the editor and news elements at the newspaper are pens-for-hire and mercenaries of the belly that pander to the instincts of primitive accumulation and conspicuous consumption.

We are inclined to believe that the paper is one of those papers whose gate-crash onto the newsstand is characterized by mercenary tendencies, given how the story was carried with slew of deliberate misinformation and wanton insinuations devoid of facts and truths. It is our submission therefore that their motivation to publish such gibberish dubbed as a story is geared at not only besmearing the reputation of Dr H. Boima Fahnbulleh, Jr., but to make him guilty of the conscious role he played in engendering the democratization of this space called Liberia only because the struggle icon in Dr Fahnbulleh refused to be victimized by these apostles of mischief’s blackmailing spree.

Unlike this pot-bellied swindler who is an impotent propaganda stray dog with a backward appetite for drinking alcohol more than he drinks water, Dr H. Boima Fahnbulleh, Jr. contributed to this free society where freedom of speech and of the press are no longer playthings of the rich and powerful in the Republic, but fundamental democratic tenets inherent to the ordinary citizens as well as media practitioners. In 1978, at age 26, with a PhD in Political Philosophy, Dr Fahnbulleh chose to teach at the University of Liberia to transform the minds of the people’s children. Instead of taking up job within the oligarchy of True Wing Party, HB, as he is tenderly called by his students, joined the Movement for Justice in Africa (MOJA) and fought for the opening of the political space for the political participation of the majority.

When our people’s tradition was a mockery to the ruling elite, Dr Fahnbulleh committed class suicide and struggled for the dignity of our people’s existence. When the forebears of Octavius Williams denied our people’s voting right only because they did not own properties and pay hut taxes, Dr Fahnbulleh along with other progressive forces agitated for the abrogation of the property clause in the Constitution of 1847. As a young minister of both Education and Foreign Affairs in the People’s Redemption Council, he served the state with honour and dignity. When the forefathers of this buffoon of the pen (Octavius Williams) manipulated Doe to start getting rid of the radical civilians in the PRC, HB resigned in 1984 as Minister of Foreign Affairs.

HB did not join the remnants of the True Wing Party’s 1989 quest to unseat President Doe, contrary to the futile attempt of this scumbag to link Dr Fahnbulleh to the National Patriotic Front of Liberia (NPFL) of Charles Taylor. HB has no history of being a member of any warring faction that participated in the fourteen years of civil madness in this country. In 2008, Dr Fahnbulleh spent nine (9) hours at the TRC, explaining his role in the political history of our country from 1979 -2003. The commissioners of the TRC, having investigated, saw the high level of truism in Dr Fahnbulleh’s historical narrative and vindicated him. Thus, in the TRC Report, Dr Fahnbulleh is not among those recommended for not only prosecution but also barring of contesting for elected public offices. Throughout the history of this struggle icon, he has dedicated his service to the interest of the people. No amount of misinformation from this inherently dogmatic bigot will derail the revolutionary credential of the patriot par excellence in Dr H. Boima Fahnbulleh, Jr.

While we are striving to uphold the peace and stability of this Republic, it is not loss on us that this riffraff in the media is bent on creating confusion to undermine the peace and tranquillity that this country enjoys. In his quest to paint certain people as good and others as bad, he devises stories and engage in slandering and mudslinging individuals with whom he disagrees. His motive is to restrict the view of the people, and make it appear like the people favoured certain candidates over the others.

We want to submit to you that the Nation Times newspaper is nothing but a scandal sheet that disgorges slew of infantile diatribes void of digging for fact and upholding the ABC of journalism that are the rudimentary foundation on which the profession rests. Such an appalling characterization of a decent statesman in Dr H. Boima Fahnbulleh, Jr. anchored by a paper owned and operated by the Vice President of the Press Union of Liberia in Octavius Williams leaves one to wonder whether the PUL is a dumb site and shaven for a gibberish-pelting clown who is impervious to the ethics of journalistic objectivity.

Common sense will inform us that this marauding carpetbagger and a national pariah in Octavius Williams is bereft of the integrity and the moral to serve in the hierarchy of such a prestigious body called the Press Union of Liberia. Imagine a man with an unquenchable appetite for illegal amassment of wealth and no adherence to journalist ethics, is the one who is to regulate the conduct of media practitioners, and to apportion punishment to them when they transgress. The presence of such a faggot in the leadership of the Press Union has exposed the Union to ridicule and disdain, as Octavius Williams is a disaster waiting to happen.

While we appreciate the media for serving as the glue that holds the poles of the society intact, we will not relent on exposing a mercenary of the pen in Octavius Williams who is in the ranks and file of the media. This individual is bent on igniting chaos in the country because he strives on deceit and theatrics. Dr Fahnbulleh, a man who laid his life on the line fighting for the rights of journalists and free press has never disdained the media landscape. He only frowned on dishonest racketeers parroting as journalists. He does not relish elements who use the media to blackmail people of honour and dignity.

However, we argue that freedom of the press can only be truly manifested when it is being practiced regarding legal precepts and guidelines. It is not a carte blanche for the reckless and ruthless use of the media to insult, vilify, malign, and defame the characters of individuals who share different views to that of this first-class racketeer in Octavius Williams, which is opposite to basic ethics in communication. Such scandalous publication of this gutter press should not be condoned, as it has the proclivity to enthrone the ghetto culture of media terrorism.

Nowhere in the history of humanity that glaring facts and known historical occurrences can be distorted by a tyro journalist to suit his quest and agenda. It has never worked before and cannot work because the conscious vanguard will always rise to counter the introduction of myth and lies in the history of humanity. It is important to note that the story in the Nation Times newspaper is a ponderous spitting out of useless recital marketed by a political jester and historical nondescripts who is on a futile move to bruise the character of a man of honour and dignity.

At the same time, we are calling on the security sector to keep track of the influx of newspapers on the newsstand, especially those with ulterior motive that feed on hate messages, sensational headlines, and slanted information. It is important that the security sector get a list of the number of local dallies on the newsstand, to keep track of their activities. It is getting increasingly clear that a paper such as the Nation Times newspaper is interested in disintegrating this society through the conveyance of toxic propaganda to the Liberian people.

Except we have forgotten the role of the media in fuelling violence in Rwanda, which culminated into the Rwandan genocide in 1994. Similarly, in Kenya, due to the reckless behaviour of certain elements in the media landscape, the Kenyan society exploded into crisis after the election of 2007. These unfortunate incidents are a reminder to our Liberian security and the people that unscrupulous individuals in the media have ignited violence by using their news outlets to expel incendiary rhetoric. Our security personnel must be internally vigilant about such people in our media landscape.

Until these misrepresentations in the media cannot exist, we will always avail ourselves to provide rebuttal to the lies.
