Quasi-opposition group launched new political party in Tunisia

PARIS, France –– A group of determined hybrid opposition figures and government insiders have launched a new political party called “Tahya Tounes” (Victory for Tunisia) in Tunisia.

The Party was officially launched on Sunday, January 27, 2019 during a meeting in the province of Monastir in the east coast region of the country.

Mustapha ben Ahmed, president of the parliamentary group, said Tunisian Prime Minister Youssef Chahed is the “founding father of this political project.”

Ben Ahmed told media groups that “Tahya Tounes” will break with the concept of a political party under a single leader.

Some international analysts and local observers say, “Tahya Tounes” should compete with the two poles of the Tunisian electoral landscape, the Nidaa Tounes party and the Islamist party “Ennahdha” (Renaissance), the majority in parliament. ffffffffff
