Sierra Leone presidential run-off delayed to March 31

Presidential candidates Samura Kamara and Julius Maada Bio

FREETOWN––On Monday, the chairman of Sierra Leone’s election commission announced that a presidential run-off planned for Tuesday will now be held on Saturday due to a setback in preparation time resulting from a court order that briefly halted its activities.

The National Electoral Commission (NEC) said the date had moved “due to logistical delays resulting from the injunction”, indicating a temporary stay on the vote issued by the High Court which was lifted on Monday.

The runoff is scheduled between the candidate of the ruling All People’s Congress party’s candidate Samura Kamara and the leader of the main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party, Julius Maada Bio.
