Sierra Leone’s new president urges rival to drop legal challenge

Sierra Leone presidential runoff rivals: APC’s Samura Kamara vs SLPP’s president-elect Julius Maada Bio

FREETOWN, Sierra Leone––Retired Brigadier General Julius Maada Bio, Sierra Leone’s new President, on Thursday called on his rival in an election run-off to drop a legal challenge against the results announced by the country’s National Election Commission, saying he could use his expertise and experience.

“I’ll very much encourage him to move away from that path and come,” Bio said of his rival Samura Kamara from the former ruling party, during an interview with Globe Afrique international media team.

“He is a resource. He has the expertise and the experience. And I think we can put those to work in addition to all that we have to make sure that Sierra Leone is a better place,” the president-elect added.
