South Africa defeats Kenya to secure African State Bowls Championships

NAIROBI, Kenya– South Africa defeated Kenya to claim the title of the African State Bowls Championships in Nairobi on Sunday.

The premier Africa bowling competition attracted six teams: host country Kenya; South Africa; Namibia; Zambia; Zimbabwe; and Botswana.

Despite Kenyan bowler Benson Kariuki thrashing Zambian Mathew Mercer 21-2 to win the gold, it didn’t give the top spot and bragging rights for the hosts as giants South Africa won the overall title with 36 points against Kenya’s 29.

Zimbabwe wins the bronze medal with 28 ahead of Botswana’s 22, Namibia’s 16 and Zambia with 13 points.  Namibia will host 2021 tournament.
